Once again, the patient trolls are trying to silence the alternative media. So far we have managed to avoid any sort of notification that we are in violation of some trumped up claim to patients, but I expect we will be targeted as well.
The first few were the “big shots” like Adam Corolla and Leo Laporte. Now the smaller podcasters are being targeted.
Well, first let me say, we can hardly afford the server bills each month little lone pay an extortion fee to some trumped up group of vultures.
Secondly, we are technically a Canadian organization, and if they would like to issue us a notice, they will receive a big “FUCK YOU” from my desk.
I really am only publishing this article so that people are aware of what is going on in the back channels as we speak. If the public doesn’t stand up for this, we may loose many fine podcasters. Speak up and let all your friends know that the Trolls are back.
The following is from Clif Ravenscraft of the Podcast Answer Man podcast:
Now, several podcasters have received letters from Personal Audio, LLC with a request to contact them to discuss licensing fees.
Now the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), wants to help! They are calling all podcasters to to contact them if they receive any such letter from Personal Audio, LLC. If you have such an letter, contact EFF by email: [email protected]
Talking Points From EFF
- President Obama recently said that patent trolls are those who “do not produce anything themselves” and are “trying to leverage and hijack someone else’s idea and see if they can extort some money out of them.”
- It’s not just podcasters who have been targeted. App developers have been on the hook for using “click to upgrade” functions. Companies who use “Scan To Email” tehnology have been targeted, and so have cafes and public spaces that offer free access to wifi.
- In 2011, patent trolls directly cost companies at least $29 billion. The damage to the economy as a whole has been estimated at close to $100 billion/year.
- The majority of companies targeted by patent trolls have less than $10 million in annual revenue.
- Of the most frequently litigated patents (those actually asserted in eight or more lawsuits) trolls win only 9.2% of the time.
